Chinese New year

Chinese New year

Chinese New Year 2025, the Year of the Snake, falls on January 29. Filipinos celebrate it because of long-standing ties with Chinese culture. Even before Spanish rule, Chinese traders influenced Filipino traditions. Over time, many Chinese families settled in the country, making the celebration a big part of Philippine culture.

Filipinos also believe in luck and prosperity, similar to Chinese traditions. Many enjoy eating tikoy, preparing round fruits, and watching dragon and lion dances. Festivities in places like Binondo, Manila’s Chinatown, bring excitement with fireworks, parades, and feasts.

The Philippine government recognizes Chinese New Year as a special holiday, allowing more people to celebrate. It has become more than a Chinese tradition—it’s a time for family, hope, and new beginnings that Filipinos cherish.
